The Scholarship to Support the Education of Children of Prisoners

one of Janodaya Trust’s key initiatives aimed at breaking the cycle of stigma and disadvantage faced by children whose parents are imprisoned or convicted.

This programme recognizes that children of incarcerated parents often experience social exclusion, emotional distress, and financial hardship, which disrupt their education and limit their opportunities for a better future. Through this initiative, Janodaya ensures that such children receive the educational support, encouragement, and dignity they deserve.

Our Initiative

Every year, Janodaya Trust provides scholarships to 100–150 children whose parents are serving prison sentences in Karnataka. These scholarships help cover essential educational expenses, including:

  • School and college fees
  • Learning materials and supplies
  • Uniforms and examination costs

Janodaya works collaboratively with various branches of the Karnataka Prison Department to identify and support these children, ensuring transparency and targeted assistance.

Our Goal

To empower children of prisoners through education, helping them overcome social stigma and build a brighter, independent, and dignified future as responsible citizens.
